best way to call U.S from mexico?

Hello,

I will be traveling in mexico for two months in early january to mid march and i wanted to know some good ways to contact the U.S via phone...i have heard some stories about extremely expensive collect calls.

are there calling cards i can get in the U.S.?

any help would be appreciated.

Hi Randy,

Telmex has LADAFON pre-paid phone cards that you should be able to buy at any Telmex office for 200 pesos (about 20 dollars). Although calls to the U.S. still aren't real cheap using these phone cards, it is a lot cheaper than calling collect or using the Ladatel cards to make the long distance call. However, if you will be calling from a pay phone, you will still need a Ladatel phone card to connect (there is no charge to your Ladatel card for this). Then, after that, you dial the 800 number on the LADAFON card entering your card number, etc. (You can get Ladatel cards for 30 pesos at many different stores in Mexico.)

Hello Randy, I just purchased a Global Calling card thru the web that allows me to call the US from Mexico for about 37 cents US per minute. Will be trying it out in February. Best Wishes, Juan
