Permanent Resident card with new passport

While I am not an expert on this topic, I did get my PR in April, and i was told it was PERMANENT! Period.

I think it is an immigration crime to come in as anything other than a PR when you have one. No one has ever mentioned a need to change the PR based on a new US passport. Show your PR and your new Passport and you should be able to waltz in. If you got a half-slip when you left, I don't know if they had that in effect at the time you left, produce it, too.

If you want to bring the old passport, just don't show it unless they ask you to. it is not a valid document once it expires.

WE have had others who wondered if they shouldn't surrender their PR card? Makes no sense to me. The only reason I could see to turn it in is if you have such a bad experience in Mexico you don't want any connection with the country.

As far as getting another one, who can guarantee they won't change the rules again in the future? Requiring a minimum income you may not have? Just saying.

A PR is to me a valuable right and should be treated with extreme pride. That is my opinion and other people may disagree.

Regarding retaining your Permanent REsident status if you're no longer living in Mexico -- when you got the card, you agreed to notify Immigration if your address changed, or any other change in status. So, to be in compliance with the law, it would seem to me that you need to notify immigration that you are no longer residing at the same address, and if your new address is outside Mexico...
In other words, the PR status is permanent, but any changes in your living situation are supposed to be reported to Immigration.

So, you are saying that once you have a Permanent Resident card, INM does not need to know that you are no longer living at the Mexican address recorded in their office? I understand that INM does not keep any record of foreign addresses, but don't they require that Permanent Residents inform them of a current address in Mexico? If that's the case, I wonder why Permanent Residents are told to report change of address to the INM office?
