Update from one state on catching foreigners with invalid TIPs

Can't Post | Private Reply
We received this report today, from a reader ...

"Illegal Vehicles Impounded. Aduana in co-operation with State Police this week, April 25, 2016, reportedly seized and impounded illegal vehicles in Manzanillo Colima.

At roadside check points, drivers were asked to exit their vehicles and take with them only what was in their possession. They were not allowed to remove anything else from the vehicle, including paperwork from the glove box. The vehicles were trucked to an Aduana compound.
"

Is this just a local Manzanillo, Colima issue, or are others finding similar actions in other states?

Why were they considered "illegal"?

I hope this link works from Tomzap Manzanillo: http://69.73.170.179/ph5/read.php?15,212564

The OP in that thread said his friend's vehicle was confiscated because his TIP was not up to date.

The 'higher profile' sites on Tomzap (this one) requires one to have registered.....

I got stopped by a Federali a few months ago for passing on a tope. He just said my TIP from 2007 was pretty old and I should have a newer one.

We are an hour north of Manzanillo in Jalisco

I drove for years in Jalisco and other states with a long "expired"TIP,was pulled over several times by federales and transitos,I handed them a copy of Articulo 106 of the Ley Aduanera, that sufficed and never had a problem.
Maybe they changed the law, quien sabe.

Yuca's post is directly from Tomzap

A second post
My friend's car was impounded for an expired TIP. Police were also seizing Colima plated vehicles - not sure why, perhaps license and insurance problems. There was a flat bed tow truck loading cars on the spot.

close...

The same person that posted on tomzap, posted the info on Yucalandia.
(We did not copy it from tomzap.)

The writing style, type of details, and number of details make the report seem credible.

I am guessing that based on the Mexconnector's responses above: No other Mexconnectors are experiencing similar impounds of foreign plated vehicles with invalid TIPs ...

which means this is an issue that's just local to Manzanillo, Colima.

I'd give it a few days before I came to that conclusion.

Manzanillo is famous for retenes along the beach just north of Santiago. Better to use the bypass just past Naranjo and enter at various central points. I haven't been to Manzanillo for a year but not related to this

Excellent point.

I've been laid-low with GI problems, fever, crummy sleep and a particularly hot end to our dry season, these past days ... and in hindsight, (I shouldn't be drawing conclusions when sick ... and ...) I believe RickS is completely right.

Thanks Rick,

This might be the right place to ask this question. I will be going for fingerprinting soon for my Temp.Res. and understand I can extend my car sticker, TIP i think they call it, for as long as my temp. res. if I do it within 15 days. Where and how do I get this done?

At you nearest Aduana office. If you are in Manzanillo they are at the truck entrance to the port

Thanks, right now it looks like I can handle it here in Puerto Vallarta, but I'll do a little more research to be sure.
