Heading to San Antonio, TX fr Ajijic. Best border crossing?

Can't Post | Private Reply
We are planning a trip to San Antonio and are currently mulling the best border crossing point. By "best" I mean security and ease of crossing. Right now we are looking at Laredo, Colombia, and Piedras Negras. We'd particularly like to hear from people who have crossed recently.

When we originally came down to Ajijic, we crossed at Colombia, which was easy from the US side. We have some concern about the toll highway connecting Colombia to US Interstate 81 because we understand that there is some sort of electronic ticket required to use it.

We are leaving Feb 3, so we'd appreciate a quick response with any thoughts about this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you have US plates on your car, then just use that toll road. You will get a bill for about $4 in the mail and you can pay on line. If you use Colombia, check out at the same counter you used to get it. There is a little building to turn in your TIP that is pretty well marked.

May be too late to answer you, but we enjoy using Eagle Pass (Piedras Negras). The booth to turn in your car permit and tourist visa is at Allende...very small and easy. The US border guards also seem more laid back here.

I previously done the same trip and went through a place called Eagle Pass which we absolutely loved and would definitely recommend.
