Topolobampo to Sonoyta

Can't Post | Private Reply
Folks,I will be leading a small group of motorcycle riders in April of 2016 down the Baja. We're planning to take the ferry from La Paz to Topolobampo in Sonora and then would like to ride up the coast through Puerto Peñasco and cross back into the States at Sonoyta. I am primarily looking for details concerning the safety of doing such a ride in Sonora and info about road conditions and the availability of gas. Thanks in advance. Ciao, Will

I am from California also, Coming from Navojoa I usually stay in Santa Ana,
go on to Highway2 to Sonoyta. I leave around 8AM and I drive to Blythe CA.

Gas in the towns of Santa Ana, Altar, Caborca and Sonoyta.

Hey Chicois8,
¿Hablas español? What about the safety on these routes during the day, or staying in Santa Ana overnight as gringos? The State Department advises against all "non-essential" traffic.

I was there in March, the roads are all toll roads and in great shape, 4 lanes all the way, I believe every few KM they have emergency telephones...Thousand of motorcycles, cars, trucks and buses travel these highway every day without incident...
I stay at the Hotel Elba on the main road through town and eat at their restaurant through their secure and guarded parking lot...
You seem to be apprehensive about mainland Mexico, you could always do a loop route by turning at Laguna Chapala on to highway 5 and travel up the gulf coast the exit at Mexicali or Tecate.

I was on the HWY 15 part of your route a couple of weeks ago. There is a lot of new asphalt being laid.

Have a fun trip.
