Travelling to Vallarta

Can't Post | Private Reply
In mid October we are planning to cross into Nuevo Laredo to get to Vallarta. We travel daylight hours and plan on overnighting in San Luis Potosi and then to Guadalajara on the toll roads all the way to Vallarta. We have done this trip six times without security issues. Has anyone done this trip this fall and had any travel security issues on the toll roads.
Thank you for any or all info.

We drove down that way 5 weeks ago except that from GDL we went to Barra de Navidad not PV. No security issues and only one check point north of Matehuala, Roads were in very good condition with many areas recently repaved. Good luck.

I have traveled part of that route 'lately' with no consequences and plan on doing so again in a few weeks.

There was, however, an incident around Matehuala several weeks ago where several cars were stopped by "hoods" using a barricade while driving the cuota (actually it is not a toll road there but same as....). They were robbed at gunpoint but were allowed to proceed in their cars after a bit. It certainly appeared to be an isolated case of 'wrong place at the wrong time' as no other incidents prior or since have occurred in that area.

We traveled down 4 weeks ago, crossing at Eagle Pass. No problem anywhere along the way. Went through 2 military check points, and two Jalisco State Police checkpoints, no problems, waved through. Only a slight slowdown in traffic at these points. The Military and the State Police are very visible all along the route. Usually three of those pickups with three armed men in the back of each pass every couple of hours...we did take 15D out of Guadalajara and come into PV via Hwy200 but that was ok as well except of course the times you get behind a double trailer truck and that will slow you down but we stopped around San Poncho for a fresh fish dinner so it was worth it.
