Lunch recommendation ?

Can't Post |
We will be in DF for a couple days this coming week. One day we will be near the Zolcalo/historic district. Can anyone recommend a nice place to eat lunch (we don't eat dinner) ? Or - we will be staying in Zona Rosa - any recommendations there for lunch ?

Thank you.

Macelleria Roma, an excellent, casual Italian restaurant, at Orizaba 127, just south of Calle Guanajuato, Colonia Roma Norte, México, D.F.

When we were last there, the menú del día was $150 pesos, a complete if light meal. But we usually order a la carte.

THat's it!

I especially like the Ensalada de Endivias or the Ensalada de Betabeles. On all but one occasion, the pizzas have been firs rate.

A Morelia friend has eaten there a couple of times, and swears by the Papardelle Macelleria. My wife and I once shared a Bistecca Fiorentina for two. It was great. At the time it was "only" $500 pesos, but I see that it has risen to $700. Gulp.

In the Entradas, or appetizers, we like the Frito Misto, but the Vitello Tonnato is excellent. The Sopa de Jitomate Rostizado was good, but the grilled cheese sandwich accompanying it is not much more than a little joke.

Another friend ordered Eggplant Parmesan and it was nicely done and good.
Generally, it's hard to go wrong.

WARNING: The wines by the glass tend to be very expensive. Beer is more economical.

Thank you.

For comida--the midday main meal--I would recommend the fabulous Azul/Histórico (Isabel La Católica 30) or the equally fabulous El Cardenal in the Hilton Alameda Hotel. You won't be disappointed by either.

Thanks so much for your suggestion. We had lunch there earlier today. My wife and I split a pizza and a roast beef sandwich. Really nice neighborhood. Reminded me a little of parts of Manhattan.

For our second lunch, today we went to
http://www.pgbbq.mx/
where we have been three times now and always enjoy.

We are probably ok with Texas BBQ until we visit Austin later this year.

Last BBQ we had was at Rudy's in the outskirts of Laredo, TX. It was very good.

Haven't yet tried Pinche Gringo BBQ in Mexico City.

Yes - I used to eat at a Rudy's in Austin with the guys from work. It is the best for brisket. Austin also had the Salt Lick. Pinche Gringo does a very good job though but get there early because they get packed.
