diplomas needed to teach in Mexico?

Can't Post | Private Reply
Maybe someone has already posted about this, but I wasn't able to find an answer... I am relocating to Mexico in June. I hold a Master's Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and am, of course, hopeful that I will be able to find a position as an ESL/EFL instructor. What sort of educational documents are required for these positions? In the US, unless you are a public school teacher, nobody ever asks for a university transcript or actual diploma. I know these documents are very important in other countries and necessary for securing work (in the U.S. whatever you write on your resume is pretty much taken as fact-in twenty years no employer has ever requested my grad school diploma or transcript).
Any words of wisdom from foreigners teaching ESL teachers in Mexico??
Thank you!

I can't remember anyone ever asking, but having your transcript available wouldn't hurt. Like any other job, being prepared, and having proof that you're qualified goes much further than just saying you are.

I taught at Tec de Monterrey in Guadalajara 17 years ago, and an MA in TESOL was essential. I only had a graduate certificate and was thus not eligible for a permanent position.

I suggest posting your question at this website, which is aimed at expat teachers of TESOL: http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewforum.php?f=26&sid=04e5928d0627b09e5199b7bcb452a538 .

Thank you, La Isla. I'm familiar with eslcafe. (That's how I found a job in Japan, actually!). I will take a look there.
