USA Liability Insurance For Mexican Car

Can't Post | Private Reply
Once again I am entering the wonderful world of insuring cars across borders. I had found a simple solution for a USA plated vehicle but now we have a Mexican plated car and need liability for the USA,

We have a 100,000 USA rider with our GNP insurance but need extra liability for the USA.

I checked an article actually linked to Mexico Connect that directed me to National Unity Insurance but I am still confused about what I actually need to purchase. The person at NUI was less than helpful. Thanks Norma

I did a ton of research on liability insurance for out Mex plated car last year and was not able to find any. We will drive to CA again this summer with collision only through Lewis & Lewis. We tried to maintain double registrations in the US & Mexico, but it wasn't possible and could have been deemed fraudulent if we did make a claim.

Isabel,
Did you flip the "liability" with "collision" in your post? I think you are trying to say that it's difficult to get collision coverage in the USA on a Mexican plated vehicle.

Good to hear the warning that attempting dual registration can cause insurance companies to claim fraud.

Yes, surely you are not going to drive in the US without Liability insurance...

Many of the carriers with US insurance have horrible limits. Not even enough to cover hitting a dog.

Please don't drive to the US without liability. The information above gives you the way to purchase on line using a credit card. You will be able to print out a policy. If you stay longer than you intended you can extend without the coverage via a phone call and credit card. It seems a little confusing but just read it over and over.

I am titled in South Dakota and legally imported and registered in Michoacan. I told SD that I exported/imported into MX and they didn't have a problem issuing a duplicate title.

Why were you not able to maintain double registration? What am I missing?

Good catch Steve! Yes I flipped out and switched liability with collision.
We do have collision not liability.

Too bad I wasn't able to delete my post. Lewis and Lewis provides liability insurance only, not collision. We have not been able to get collision insurance on our nationalized vehicle while driving in the US.

Why did you give up your USA title?
