I will be in the Mannzinillo area for the winter and need to phone the States daily. The best rate I can find is with MCI at 25 cents per minute.
Do you know of anyyhing more economical?

The best rate I can find is with MCI at 25 cents per minute. I just bought the MCI calling card that allows global calls.
There was a 800 number to call for the international rates.
I called, and from anywhere in Mexico to the US it's 36 cents per minute. Which is still better than the Ladatel card you can buy (at least in Puerto Vallarta). It's 5 pesos a minute.If you found a rate of 25c per minute, that's probably as good as it gets.

Hi Doug,
I once accepted charges for a collect call from a friend, not knowing that he was calling from one of those "Call Collect to Anywhere in the US or Canada" payphones you find around tourist areas in Mexico. We only spoke for about 3 minutes. Later that month, I received a my phone bill and found out that the call, billed by some no-name phone company, had cost me about $64.So that works out to a little over 21 dollars per minute. Its a little bit more than the 25 cents per minute that you are considering, but if you really don't like the person on the other end of the phone call......

I use MCI's calling card. For approx. $3.95 per month, they give me a quoted rate of 15 cents per minute. The actual charge has been 10 cents a minute. (go figure) I also get 5 f.f. miles for every dollar I spend. I cancel the monthly service when I won't be in Mex.The bonus is they give you half off the monthly fee when you sign up again.
I've found the card (actually just a pin#) much better than call-back service. I can use it anywhere in Mex. including pay phones.

If you have a major credit card and a personal phone while in Mexico, you can set up a call back service. The savings would be perhaps .06 cents per minute. I have seen some at .19... The other option is to use Yahoo Messengerfor free. If you are planning on bringing your computer and are on line, you can use yahoo. Tell friends and relatives to set it up for free. It is not the best connection but the price is right. If you choose to invest in one of those little eyeball cameras, you can see each other and talk for free. hope these suggestions help.

The free part of Yahoo Messenger is ONLY if you are calling PC to PC. NOT PC to phone. Most internet programs will give you free PC to PC.If where you are staying has a good internet connection then is it quite possible to use the programs PC to Phone for about 3.4 cents a minute. Some are less than that.I call up to the US all the time using PC - Phone. I choose time frames when the internet is not at it's busiest and have no problems with a normal conversation.

there is a way by doing it through cridit card but I would have ask my parent's or you can email me and I will get you the information!! they are in tecoman actually.. but they have a very good plan and it is the cheapest way I think in mexico to call the states or vise versa. so if you want just email I don't have the info on me but I think they would help you with this.
