New time zone effective Feb. 1, 2015 for Quintana Roo

Think Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, etc., the state of Q.R. will be on the misnamed Southeastern Time Zone effective Feb. 1, 2015, thus matching the eastern U.S./Canada time in New York, Atlanta, Toronto, etc. So move your mental clocks one hour forward from CST (Mexico City, Chicago, Mérida) when traveling to or from the state of Yucatán and elsewhere in central and southern Mexico to the Caribbean cost of Q.R.

The tourist industries of Q.R. had sought the new time zone to simplify travel for international air passengers coming from or via the U.S. eastern coast, reportedly 60% of such travelers.

Have not seen reported if the time zone will be synchonized with the changes in the U.S. from EST to DST when that occurs. Currently, Mexico and Europe have a less expansive DST than does the USA.
