Selling a home in Ajijic

Can't Post | Private Reply
Question for the Mexi-brain Trust.

I am planning on selling a home in Ajijic this year. Purchased it in 2004 - spiffed it up some - new cocina, roof, terrace etc.

Immigration status is the basic FMT (or whatever that is called now). Casa used as an escape pad several weeks/months a year - not a permanent home.

Question: What are the best options for avoiding what seems like a big tax hit. Do I have to upgrade my immigration position?

I am not opposed to paying taxes - but I have heard the cap. gains number to be 40%. Seems excessive!

thanks

If you do not have actual facturas for the improvements, you cannot have those expenses deducted from any profit you may receive.
I think it would benefit you to be Residente Permanente if there is any significant profit. You might want to talk to a Lawyer; I suggest Chapala Law, Spencer, AKA Intercasa on these boards and others.
