Telmex Long Distance

I have been getting some emails from Telmex about the elimination of Long Distance charges. Even LD to Canada and the USA was mentioned. But I found the info to be very confusing. Has anyone deciphered that information? I am skeptical!

All telephone carriers have eliminated all NATIONAL long distances charges as of January 1--it's a new law that includes both land lines and cellular phones. The new law is part of the Telecommunications Reform Act that came into effect January 1. The telephone numbers and how you call does not change, but you will no longer be charged for long distance.

The new law does not affect international long distance, although some carriers include either a certain number of charges to the USA and Canada each month. Our carrier, for example, (Totalplay) offers unlimited free long distance to both north-of-the-border countries.

Check here but read the footnotes:

http://www.telmex.com/web/hogar/conexion-internet

Calls to the US/Canada now cost 1.19 pesos per minute, including taxes.

That is a great price. About 8 cents a minute. My Magic Jack does not always work as our internet speed can be very slow. My callback service is about the same price as Telmex. Thanks.
