Driving from Nuevo Laredo to Tecoman

Does everyone feel safe going through this part of the country (i.e. thru Monterey, etc.) and are the toll roads continuous down through Aquascaliente and into Quadalajara?
Also, what are the pluses for going through San L. Potosi?

I travel every week from Nuevo Laredo to San Luis Potosi and have never had trouble. The toll roads will be very busy with paisano traffic but will have much federal police presence.

This route is probably the most traveled in/out of Mexico.... certainly anywhere in this corridor.

You will actually not go through Monterrey but skirt it to the NW. Once in the Saltillo area you have a choice... go down through San Luis Potosi or through Zacatecas/Aguascaliente.

If you go the San Luis Potosi route, you will probably not actually go into San Luis but rather take the bypass (watch your speed exiting this bypass). Shortly after leaving the bypass (1/2 mile?) you will take another 2-lane cuota west towards Lagos de Moreno (where you will take a bypass also, to the right and around). This will be on 80. Stay on 80 until you get to Guadalajara.

If you decide to go through Zac/Aguas, stay on cuota 40 heading towards Gomez Palacio around the NW side of Saltillo. Then, instead of going to GP, you will take a newer and very good road, 54 down to the northern outskirts of Zacatecas. From there follow the signs to Aguas. After Aguas, just follow the signs first to Mexico for a while on 45 and then south on 80 to Guadalajara.

IMO, both routes are equally good.... the Zacatecas route will have fewer tolls but just as good roads.

Amazon.com sells the Guía Roji. Get the one called Las Carreteras de México, current year. It's maps.
