Rudy Giuliani will advise Mexico City police

Can't Post |
October 11, 2002 -- A security consulting group headed by former Mayor Rudy Giuliani will advise Mexico City police on how to make that city safer, Giuliani said yesterday.
The Giuliani Group will help Mexico City police implement some of the same tactics used to reduce crime during his two terms as mayor, Giuliani said at a news conference. <p>"Back in the early 1990s, New York City was regarded as the crime capital of America, featured on the cover of Time magazine as a rotting apple," said Giuliani. "Mexico City faces a challenge like that today." <p>Mexico City, whose 17.9 million residents make it the second most populous city in the world, is plagued by high crime rates and a low standard of

TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 10 /CNW/ -- The Yucatan Express has announced
pricing and vacation package details for its new cruise ferry service sailing
twice weekly between the Port of Tampa and the Yucatan Peninsula -- Cancun
(Morelos) and Merida (Progreso). The inaugural season will set sail Friday,
November 22nd.
Vacationers may choose luxury motor coach tours of the Yucatan or they may
select from a wide selection of fine hotels in Cancun and the historic
colonial City of Merida. Seven-day Cruise-Hotel round trip packages start
from $229, while 11 and 14-day Cruise-Hotel vacation packages range from $359
and $469, respectively.
For passengers wanting a shorter break, there is a return cruise to Mexico
with short visits to either Cancun or Merida. These "Back2Back Fun Cruises"
start at a low $75. Travelers preferring to stay one or more nights in Mexico
without a Yucatan Express Hotel or Motor Coach package, may purchase passage
only tickets from a low $120 round trip.
"The Yucatan Express cruise ferry is an entirely new type of vacation
product for Florida and Mexico," commented Jim Gamble, general manager for
Yucatan Express. "It combines the best of a destination vacation with the
best of an upscale journey."
The Yucatan Express offers vacationers the opportunity to take their own
vehicles -- car, RV, motorcycle -- even their boat, to explore the Yucatan
Peninsula. Vehicle fares start at just $298 per round trip for a standard
car. In addition to personal vehicles, the Yucatan Express will also
transport freight including trailers, pallets and refrigerated units.
All basic Cruise-Hotel vacation packages include a Category 6 "Economy"
cabin. Many cabin upgrade choices are available including the Category 5
cabin with en suite lavatory and washbasin ($25 per passenger) and the
Category 4 inside cabin with en suite 3-piece bath ($75 per passenger).
Fares are per passenger round trip based on double occupancy and do not
include port & security charges, onboard meals, taxes or gratuities.
Discounts for children, third and fourth passengers are available.
The Yucatan Express is operated by Scotia Prince Cruises, which has been

Rudy Giuliani will advise Mexico City police

Can't Post |
Oh, great. First Bratton (Giuliani's ex-police chief) comes to head the LAPD; now Giuliani's gonna "fix" Mexico City... I'm an ex-NYer, soon to be ex-LAer, and I thought I was getting away from all that. :-)<p>BTW, can we get LA Lakers games on cable in San Miguel?<p>

The insurance company they recommend apparently worked with them on the previous ferry service.<p>Need to purchase insurance before taking the car of the ferry, unless they figure out a way to let you run into Progreso to pick up some, that would probably be the cheapest.
Meanwhile i'm tentatively going with
http://www.mexicanautoinsurance.com/
after having checked with Sanborn's and Padilla.<p>Cecilia's recommended insuror doesn't seem to have a website - so if you get a decent verbal quote - I'd very much appreciate to know what they quote. Thanks<p>very short term insurance is very expensive, for more than 30 days, it's worth taking out a full year policy
The insurers are very competitive and quotes should be checked<p>: : : I wonder how the car permits/insurance work with this ferry deal.<p>: I just got off the phone with Cecilia, the booking agent and she told me that the insurance had to be purchased prior to boarding. www.mexicoferry.com SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

If this thing doesn't leave port (a BIG possibility), wouldn't you rather book with the ship's operator (Scotia Prince)? The other website hawking this service (www.mexicoferry.com) is a travel agency with a fancy website. Should you find yourself without a ship to sail on, how easy do you think it will be to get your money back from this virtual agency? <p>Sure, it's pathetic that www.yucatanexpress.com still does not have pricing info (other than a press release on its site), but that's not a good enough reason to book with an unknown third party. THINK ABOUT IT!

Yucatan ferry find a different insurance company

We spoke to them and they didn't know about the car permits. When bringing your car into the state of QR you don't need a permit as long as you don't leave the state, if you do you'll need to go down to the Belize border, quite a trip. We would love to see permits issued at the dock, save us a long trip. Also we called the insurance company they recommened at the quote was very high compared to the rates we have been getting.

www.mexicoferry.com SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

Empress Cruise Lines announced plans for a ferry in 1996 but went bankrupt. <p>American Viking Lines operated a ferry service during the winter of 1998-1999, chartering the Scotia Prince ship. Alledgedly the attempt was poorly advertised and funded and ran out of money. <p>Scotia Prince claims they will spend "seven figures" during the next six months to publicize the service, advertising in newspapers and magazines, by direct mail and some television time. <p>NOTE: I'm still looking for the first of the seven figures being spent.<p>The defunct Anerican Viking line was handled by
Scand-America International which also promotes the new service under the name MexicoFerry.com as a sales agent for the ship's operator Scotia Prince Cruises.<p>Scand-America International is located in Tampa, Florida and if I have a problem it's close enough for me to bang their door in. In addition cancelling a visa charge is as easy as 1,2,3.<p>Obviously mexicoferry has an IN with Scotia Prince otherwise it would be hard to explain why their promotional website has all the required info a long time before yucatanexpress.<p>Ironically mayaline.com is also online claiming departures in November without any other news.<p>Inaugural cruises have a tendency to get sold out fast. I took the risk of reserving with mexicoferry, and will keep my SUV tanked up to the last minute.<p>....................<p><p>: If this thing doesn't leave port (a BIG possibility), wouldn't you rather book with the ship's operator (Scotia Prince)? Turn out there is a IITV modulos in Progreso, but not Cancun. If you arrive in Cancun, you do not need an import permit if you stay in the state of Quintana Roo (a zona libre). Otherwise, you will need to drive to Chetumal or Progreso to get one.
