Driving from New Mexico to Pureto Vallarta

We are driving down just after Thanksgiving. We have done it many times but, what with all the latest travel advisories, we were wondering if someone has plotted a course that avoids all the problem areas. Thanks, Greg

We drove from Northern California to Mayto (2 hours south of PV) 10 days ago, crossing at Nogales. We stopped in Hermisillo, Alamos,Mazatlan,Sayulita and then home. We did not have any issues.
Trip advisor and other sites have posted US State Dept warnings for years and I am thinking they should add a warning for Chicago where 19 people were shot recently.
Where are you crossing and what stops are you planning? I highly recommend Mazatlan, I had no idea el centro was so beautiful, great old architecture and some really great cafés. Alamos was also stunning for the same reason. We were glad we took our time this trip to see parts of Mexico we had not experienced previously. I would add photos here if I knew how, but you can PM me and I will send a few.
