Driving from U.S. to Mexico, and staying 120 days. I understand I need a permit for the car; do I get it before taking off or can I can obtain it when I cross? On different subject, do I need a visa if I am only staying 120 days?

Your choice....online before you go or at the border. There are requirements..if you are unaware, ask.

By "visa" I assume you mean a Mexican one... You'll get a 'tourist card' at the border..... Assuming again that you will be traveling past the border area. You'll need a US passport to re-enter the US.

See rollybrook.com for a lot of info about this and other stuff you might not know.
