travel to Laredo

We're going to drive to Laredo, Tx (from Guadalajara) to attend to some business in a couple weeks.
We'd prefer to cross the border in the morning. So we need to find somewhere to overnight on the north side of Monterrey to have a quick drive to Laredo. Any suggestions?
Also, any comments on the current relative safety of traveling that route?

There are several hotels by the airport. There is a good brew pub around there too.

There is a new citi express hotel next to the aeropuerto norte , I travel to laredo every week and have not had any problems in 6 years. I travel from S.L.P at night and cross the border about 4:30 in the morning

You will need to stay on the north side of Monterrey. There are no accommodations along the highway between Monterrey and Nvo. Laredo. It's calm now along this part of the border.

thanks to all of you. We plan on staying at the new City Express.
So happy to hear the border area is calm now.
