Watch out for fake IFE cards, how to verify them

Can't Post | Private Reply
Fake documents are easy to get, this ad in Craigslist show how real the fake documents look. You need to do due diligence and check any documents presented to you if you want to avoid troubles, the site used to check IFEs http://listanominal.ife.org.mx/...ta_permanente_ln.htm
Banks and notaries check it and moreso now with so much fraud and anti money laundering, you should check any IFE voting credential presented to you as you see the fakes look like the real thing, just wont pass the online verification test.

Of course, IFE cards are expiring over the next year and a half, and IFE doesn't exist any more. INE card verification is here.

I was told I would not have to reapply and to change the card when it expire so IFE cards are here for a few more years.

Frankly, I can't think of the last time I asked someone if I could see their IFE card, nor can I think of a situation in the future where I might ask for it. So . . . ??????

Okay. Not relevant for me as I don't employ 28 people Nor even one. Well . . . maybe a gardener once a month.

I didn't need one to open a bank account.

All is well on this side. My point being that perhaps most people don't need to get all paranoid about this issue.

I do not employ 28 people either Thank God but I got a group of artisans together and got them a free bus and they had to show the IFE.

I get a copy from people who are going to work in my house because I like to know where they live and their official ID.

No need to get paranoid but it is good to know you can check those cards.

I love the add for the fake id using the president foto, they have a cerain sense of style..

I have not run into anyone who does not have an IFE so if someone wanted to work for me and was not registered I would tell them to get a card.
I work with indigenous and some of them cannot read or write and they are registered so someone who has more education should get registered or find work somewhere else..That is just me, I try to keep my life simple.

The IFE (now INE) card is much more than a voting card, it is in effect a national identify card. Even many illiterate citizens have IFE cards as the parties, particularly the PRI, sign up the folks in order to harvest voter gratitude for the goodies the parties distribute particularly around elections.

Most countries have varyingly secure national identity cards or the equivalent, the USA being a glaring exception (our nearest, poor equivlent are driver licenses).

INE... the old IFE... registration and party registration are different things. I could be wrong, but the parties can't get you a voter ID card, only the local INE office. It's the de facto "picture ID" here since most people don't drive (and don't get drivers' licenses), people have phoney INE cards for the same reason I had a phoney drivers' license when I was 16... so I could "pass" as an adult.

In the communities I know PRI does not distribute IFE cards but there is a huge pressure on everyone to register by the community leaders.
One of the many scandals last electionwas that the leaders of the community told everyone to vote for PRI some people abstained raher than vote for PRI and were kicked out of the village losing their land and houses.
They organized a march of protest to Mexico. That was the penalty for not voting PRi , no need to distribute the cards. They will drive people to get IFE cards but do not ditribute them.

Though here the voter registration card is also a de facto national ID card, I don't see anything sinister in parties taking people to get registered. Political parties do that all the time in the U.S. and naturally try to convert you to their cause.

In Chiapas in the indigenous communities people are told who to vote for especially in the small communities and there is a price to pay if you do not conform, I callthat sinister.

My favorite part of the fake credencial in the photo is the CURP. Most Mexicans think he's a **ick anyway, and his CURP proves it.

richmx2.... It is not very different here on Cozumel, Q.Roo.... The Union Members all vote PRI and the non-union people are bribed with Gift Certificates from Soriana, a sad state of affairs in my opinion.

The IFE cards are being issued as we speak not INE, my husband just got one. It says it will expire in 2024, I asked if we had to reregister with the change to INE, I was told no so I have a feeling that people will call it IFE for a while longer just like we refer to Green Card in the US when they have not been Green since Jim Carter...old habits do not die very fast.

Just like the INAPAM (senior citizen's card): years ago, it was the INSEN card and most folks still call it that.

Well, the rule for creating the first four letters of the CURP are
--first two letters of your father's last name
--first letter of your mother's last name
--first letter of your baptismal name
So I think at least the first four letters are correct and not by accident. Imagine having THAT as your CURP! LOL...

I agee, Citali, but that's a different thing than saying just taking you to get your IFE/INE card is something sinister.

Minor exception on the CURP numbers. People like myself, who don't have an apellido maternal (mostly foreigners and migrants) use the first two letters of the one and only surname, but get "X" for a maternal name. And, if your apellido paternal begins with two consonants (like mine), it's the first and third letters of the surname. Mine starts GAXR, when you'd have it starting GRBR. Not sure how they deal with people with one letter surnames (like the Spanish name "O") or people whose names beginning with two vowels (like the Japanese surname "Aioki").
