Trip report Laredo Tx to San Miguel de Allende

We just made this trip on Wed. 1-22-2012.
We crossed on Bridge 2 at about 7 AM. There were about 4 cars being totally unloaded and checked but we were waived on, actually told to hurry since they did not want to search us. I really would not advise crossing before full light if you don't know the crossing since it can be a maze if you don't know where to go especially if needing car permits etc.
At the Aduna stop outside of Nuevo Laredo no one was being checked and I had to wait for someone to come and look at our papers.
I noticed as we passed the Saltillo exit several cars were stopped by the Feral Police.
After we exited the Couta around Saltillo there was a huge inspection station in the lanes going North. Cars and trucks were in one line. My guess is it would have taken at least one hour to make it through the inspection station.
Between Matehula and San Luis there was an inspection on both sides of the road. Going towards Matehuala they were using the machine that extends above the road. Not much of a wait either way and we were just waived on.
We arrived at our house at about 5:30 PM.
I noticed less military and federal police presence on the return trip than we saw when we made the drive to the border in early December.
The only problem had was with the drive was finding a place to stay that felt ok in Laredo. We were traveling with two small dogs which limits your choices. We had stopped staying at the Red Roof Inn just off I35 because the neighborhood felt sketchy, the La Quinta by Dennys is run down so we have opted for the Red Roof Inn to the East of downtown. It was fine inside but both John and I encountered panhandlers outside of the hotel. The only place we have left to try in Laredo is the La Quinta Airport.

We have been staying at the airport La Quinta with our dog. No issues but the price is higher.

We haven't stayed there recently, but the Family Garden Inn in Laredo was very pet-friendly and a decent place to stay. They had a free happy hour with beer, lemonade, popcorn and hot dogs and a free breakfast.

Also you said "several cars were stopped by the Feral Police"Was that a Freudian slip?
