Leather town near Toluca ???

Can't Post | Private Reply
Many years ago on a Business trip to Toluca I visited a small town nearby that had block after block of Leather shops. I think anything made of leather could be purchased in that town. Can someone out there tell me the name of that town ??? Thanks

Esperanza... Thanks for the reply.

I am not too sure that is the correct town... I looked on Google Maps and the town looks way too big. Mind you it was about 15 years ago but I remember it to be a small village with only a few side streets. One of the side streets which was one block from the main street was all leather stores for maybe 6 or 8 blocks. The street was pretty much an open air market on the day I was there with real stores to the sides. As I recall it was on a Saturday which is maybe the reason for the street market.

The same day I visited Metepec to see the pottery and it also had a large street market that day.

Thanks,

CozICan

Dollars to doughnuts it was San Mateo Atenco. They actually have a leather shoe fair every year. There are a bunch of other Atencos right in the area--San Pedro, San Juan, etc. Maybe they are all bunched together on the map.

Hi CozICan,
Could it be Villa de Carbon? This is a beautiful pueblo that is full of leather goods. It has a small plaza and everything is virtually walking distance from there.
