Bucerias to Guanajuato

Hi, I'd appreciate hearing about driving experiences going from Bucerias to Guanajuato. Don't plan on driving around Guanajuato itself, but am curious about route, duration, road conditions, concerns if any, etc. Thank you for your replies!

From Bucerias, it takes about 5 hours to drive to Guadalajara, then it takes about 5 hours more to drive on to Guanajuato.

From Bucerias to Guadalajara, you can take HWY 200 north through and past Las Varas, up over the hills and mountains, and then connect to HWY 15 (cuota) after cutting off from 200 just before reaching Compostela. All signs point to Guadalajara so it's easy. Or you can take the route almost immediately out of Bucerias, past the prison in Vallarta, up past San Sebastian del Oeste, Mascota, Ameca, etc., then onto Guadalajara. This route is probably more scenic, but includes a lot of two-lane mountain driving with curvy roads, etc. It's free though. So depends on your preference.

From Guadalajara, there are a couple of ways to get to Guanajuato.
