Here is the question.
The ferry to Mexico is starting to run soon out of Tampa Florida. I am not ready to move yet but the ferry would be a cheap way of getting all I want to bring to Mexico. The ferry is doing a six month trial. There is no guarantee that it will continue past six months.
So Even though I am not ready to move I am considering getting an fm3 so I can bring my things down.
1- I will be spending most of my time in the U.S. will this present a problem in keeping the fm3 I will not be ready to move for 18 months or so.
2- I want to have a car down there when I am living full time. So while bringing my things in I was going to get the paper work for my suv as well so I can keep it in Mexico when I move full time. But can I take it back to the states with me after bringing my belongings down.
Remember I am not ready to move yet I just want to get my things down and this seems the cheapest way.
3- If I get the fm3 can I wait to get a car or does the car have to come with the fm3 and the paper work done at the same time.
4-If the car paper work has to be done when i arrive in Cozumel, and you can only have one registard car. Does the trailer count as well being that it is plated.
Basicly I want to bring my car and trailer down drop the stuff off and take car and trailer back
I now this is a lot of questions but any insight would be appreciated

Hi Ron,
You can bring a car and a trailer, and you can take them back out anytime. The car and trailer will have their own papers, and that has nothing to do with your household belongings.
You can get your FM3 and menaje de casa, bring your belongings, drop them in Mexico, and take yourself, your car and trailer back to the States. Just because you have an FM3 doesn’t mean you must stay in Mexico, it only means you can. There’s one catch – you must be physically present in Mexico each year to renew your FM3. That can only be done in the city where you ‘live.’
For a whole lot more details, click below

Hi Rolly Does this mean I can bring my car in now without bothering with the paperwork that leads me to keeping my car in Mexico?
And when I am ready to move bring my car in under the fm3 I got 19 months prior.
also can you bring another car in under the fm3 if i take my car out of mexico. In other words is the fm3 only good for one car a one shot deal or if i take the original car out can I bring another one in? You can bring as many different cars as you wish so long as you have only one registered at a time. Bring one in, register it, stay for awhile, drive it out and turn in the papers at the border as you leave. Then you can come back later with another car and start over again. It does not matter whether you have a tourist visa (FMT) or an FM3, the procedure is the same. The only difference is that if you have an FMT, your car can only stay 180 days. If you have an FM3, the car can stay as long as you keep you FM3 valid.
