Parking Meters (Parquímetros) in Mexico City

In Polanco, I have found that street parking has been a bit more difficult to find after the installation of the parquímetros, while in the area around the U. S. Embassy the parking is about the same and perhaps even a bit easier to find after the installation of the parking meters.

ABC News published an article on the subject written by Olga R. Rodriguez on the suject. Click on the link to go to the article.

Our colonia (La Condesa) is currently embroiled in the whether to or whether not to let the government install parquímetros on our streets. Opinions go both ways. Tomorrow there is a vote. IMHO, parking problems are bad enough already without adding parking meters to the mix. Most folks agree that if the meters are installed, the money collected from them will not benefit the colonia (although that is what is theoretically supposed to happen), but will simply disappear into someone's pocket. And no one is convinced that parking meters will put an end to parking on the sidewalks--we think that they will actually make sidewalk parking more prevalent.
