Finding A Safe Cab in Mexico City

El Universal published an article on January 15, 2013 that describes a few ways to ensure that the cab you are using is legal. You may not have time to check all the items when hailing a cab on the street so using a "sitio" is always the safer solution. Although the article is written in Spanish, Google Translate does a good job of providing an adequate translation. Click on the link to go to the article.

Article from "El Universal" details a handy App for Android and IPhone that will verify if a taxi is properly licensed, notifies friends or family that you are taking a taxi, has a handy virtual taxi meter and an evaluation tool. Overall, a very useful App if you use taxis in Mexico City. Article is in Spanish. Use Google Translate or other tool if necessary.

A check in the Google Play Android App Store shows mixed reviews.

Sounds like a bit of overkill to me.
