Leaving Dallas on 12/11 (driving at nite) arrive Laredo in the a.m. Heading for GTO.
Though we have made this trip for the past 30 years with little or no problem,
Mrs. C. has concerns for safety - Bad Guys - and wondering if any out there
have thoughts or suggestions. Thanks in advance and feel free to reply to
ztx1@sbcglobal.net.

There isn't much to tell you, other than there haven't been any serious incidents in Nvo. Laredo during the last two weeks. It's probably related to the transition to the Peña Nieto administration on the 1st. It's not real clear how the new government intends to handle security in the Tamaulipas--Coahuila border areas.

Realisticaly, if you have made this trip for the last thirty years, then you know how much time you spend in the border area, 30 minutes, 40 minutes? Not much exposure to the even more remote chance of random violence.

As followup - one, thanks to alta and don for their thoughts. two, no problemas. we got to laredo about 4am, some new programs at the mex aduana but left by 7:30 and a good run to the "ranch" just north of san miguel de allende by 5:30 in the pm.

while at the 'ranch' i noted that the 'people' are pretty much oblivious to the narco crime problems as they just are not a part of their lives.

great trip back - took all of the autopistas and perifericos offered but decided to skip the bedlam at the laredo checkout. took columbia instead and other than spending 45 minutes on the bridge we got thru and again, no problems. a great trip and a great christmas.
