no shots needed but watch where you eat and make sure the water is purified.

You might want to make sure you have had a flu shot. It's not required but with the influx of folks from all over during the Holidays, it would be a hedge on the safe side. No need to ruin a perfectly good trip to God's country.

Typhoid vaccine is a good idea. People usually get it from food preparers or servers who are carriers.

No, especially not a flu shot. A friend of mine has been sick with the flu for 3 weeks after getting that shot.

Exactly,or de-wormed Mezcal. Paz Liquors also carries Irish whiskey to make you feel right at home,Eric.

Myth

The flu shot itself can give you a case of the flu.

Fact

The virus used in the vaccine is grown in chicken eggs and killed off before it reaches your bloodstream. There's absolutely nothing in it capable of causing the flu.

So now what Dr Suds??

The flu shot has also been proven to help prevent heart attacks:

http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/life/human-biology/flu-heart.htm

As early as 2003, a study published in the "New England Journal of Medicine" involving people with heart problems -- either prior heart attacks, angioplasty or stent placement (to open arteries) -- found that those who got the flu shot were 20 percent less likely to end up in the hospital with a heart-related problem and 50 percent less likely to die in the year following vaccination.

Get a Flu shot. Lots of people at Lakeside are sick now. It happens every year when the snowbirds come down.

Methinks you and I should defer to the REAL doctors answering Eric about shots of the medical sort. Since I am not a doctor like they are , I retract my unprofessional advice about shot types. However can one of you real doctors explain to us lay persons how the Hep vaccine regimen can be given in 3 weeks? Are there new protocols established? I would also seek your doctoral opinion on the efficacy of flu shots.
An after thought to Doctor Axixic: Do you not have a copy of the actual New England Journal of Medicine that you refer to in your office? Most doctors I know also subscribe to Lancet. What does it say? And while I'm at it;how many of you doctors have the Merck Manual on your desk?

As a lay person,I have merely asked you of your professional opinion Doctor Axixic. None of my other Doctors have ever suggested that I google medical advise that they have given me.Are you not a doctor then?

TwinRix for Hep A/B has to be followed up with a 6 month booster after the intitial series. Even then it is best to get your blood tested afterwards to ensure you are immune.

New England Journal of Medicine:
http://www.nejm.org/...10.1056/NEJMoa025028

"Vaccination against influenza was associated with a reduction in the risk of hospitalization for cardiac disease (reduction of 19 percent during both seasons"

"In the elderly, vaccination against influenza is associated with reductions in the risk of hospitalization for heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, and pneumonia or influenza as well as the risk of death from all causes during influenza seasons. These findings highlight the benefits of vaccination and support efforts to increase the rates of vaccination among the elderly."
