Gasoline prices lowered

Can't Post |
Fox announced that as of Dec. 1 the price of Magna gasoline in the border zone will be lowered (close to 40%) to the weekly average price of gas on the Texas side of the border.

Wouldn't it be nice if this started a trend and made it's way south into the interior states?

I doubt that the price of gasoline will drop in the rest of the Republic. The reason for the reduction in the border towns is that folks are driving over to the US and filling up over there thus seriously crippling competition for the local Pemex stations. There is no incentive to reduce prices for the captive market in the southern states of Mexico so why cut profits needlessly...

Yes Brian I understand the reason. It was just wishful thinking on my part.

I think Bush should go in the other direction instead of Fox. Gas in the US is too cheap. It should be raised at least $1 per gallon. The rest of the world is making an effort to cut consumption more like Mexico. People in the US waste too much gas and drive those huge wasteful SUVs. Think of how nice the air would be and how attractive and slim people could be. Just think. NO MOR DIETS. Just a bit more exercise. Public transportation and WALKING. I see people that live just a few blocks from LCS driving and fighting for a parking space. What is that all about. Perhaps Mexico's prices are too cheap too...

Lucy..the reason gas prices are so high in Mexico has nothing to do with cutting consumption. It is about corruption and ineffecient system of taxation..the union, the private Pemex empires, the many Mexicans who pay no income tax who should..

I know you are right. I was considering the impact of lowering or raising prices. It is common knowledge that most government business in all countries are poorly run with lots of pork and corruption. It is the same in the US. Look how long the government went on making people wealthy by awarding profitable contracts at inflated prices. It is still common today. Just read today about an investigation of a long term county official in Detroit. Had to do with road and airport contracts. This is not new or just about Mexico. My hopes are that when gas prices are wildly high, many will start driving reasonable size autos and cut their driving. Perhaps even start using more public transportation. Perhaps some will even insist on better pubic transportation. i am concerned about the condition of the planet I turn over to my grand children and great grand children. I know this is not most people's concern. Most people just live for their pocketbookTODAY... Just my opinion.

Pemex union

Do you know if the the Pemex union is in the pocket of big business like the one in Venezuela. I would guess that they probably are. There they are actively working with the upper classes (and Uncle Sam) to topple Chavez.
