Problem with Scotia Bank ATM

Can't Post | Private Reply
Just a warning to everyone - I've never had a problem with a Scotia ATM before but yesterday I tried to withdraw 5,000 peoso. The screen flashed a message that the full amount could not be dispensed at this time. I received a 500 peso note from the machine. But my account has posted the USD equivalent of 5,000 pesos. I have reported it to B of A, but thought I would warn every one. First time I had a problem with this machine. This has happened in the past that the machine did not have the full amount but my account was charged the correct amount dispensed.

i have been using this machine for 6 years and have only had 1 similar problem about 5 years ago. it does have a tendency to run out of cash infrequently. maybe it ran out of cash in the middle of your transaction, is all?
i used it the day before you did-no problema. i am also a scotia bank customer with a canadian branch account.

Interesting... I was unable to pay for purchases with my Banamex debit card at a Farmacia Guadalajara in Morelia yesterday. Somewhat later, I attempted to withdraw cash from another bank's ATM. It was fine, until the final step, when it said that it was unable to contact my bank.

An hour or so later, at a branch of Banamex in Morelia, I was successfully able to withdraw a sum up to my limit from the ATM.

To cap the day, I tried to pay for a large appliance at Costco, but the charge was denied.

I'm going to have to visit the Pátzcuaro Banamex today in an attempt to resolve this.

I had the exact same thing happen a couple of months ago. The machine was out of 500 peso notes and just gave me the last one. The receipt was correct, but my account was charged the whole 5000. I contacted the bank and they reimbursed my account right away. The mistake was found and the reimbursement stayed. Only once did I lose my money when the machine didn't give me any pesos and my account was charged for the whole 5000. I reported it and was reimbursed, but 45 days later they took the money back saying no mistake was found. I hold my breath everytime even though I've been doing this for almost 5 years.

I think my card was blocked due to unusual high rate of activity lately on my part. They are sending me a new card. Meanwhile, I can withdraw funds from the Banamex ATMs and at the teller windows. I just can't use it for commercial transactions.

Since late July, at least three Scotia ATMs in Puerto Vallarta have not been accepting Scotia Canada ATM cards due to an incompatibility with their new chip reading technology. This is new since April, 2012. Nothing different about my card (same card with chip) but new machines.

A friend of mine inquired at the headquarters of Scotia Canada who said the problem would be rectified by August 17th. Sign in the bank telling people not to use Scotia Canada cards is still there and I donīt want to try again until we get our money back. Two of us got debited the Canadian equivalent of 5000 pesos each, and we have to wait 45 days to be reimbursed. We received no cash, and at the very end of the transaction we got a message saying "Cannot communicate with your bank" It seemed to be communicating well enough to know who we were so as to debit our account.

Not sure if BofA cards still work ok in these machines. I do know that the branch at Plaza Marina in Vallarta said no foreign debit or credits were working in Scotia ATMs. No sign warning people not to use them though.

My Scotia Canada card does seem to work in Banamex machines, but we are using another bank card. Donīt want to risk losing more money until we get reimbursed or preferably until someone else reports they are working.. It is most annoying though to have to incur multiple $5.00 withdrawal charges. I intend to ask Scotia Canada for reimbursement of those.
