Funds regarding FM3

Can't Post | Private Reply
I'm planning to go to live in Mexico and want to apply for a FM3 visa. I did some research and figured out that there is an income requirement that's around $1300 each month and you need to prove this my showing your bank statements of the last 3 months. Does this also mean that this income needs to continue while I'm residing in Mexico?
The reason I'm asking this is that I'm planning to resign from my job when I'll move to Mexico and therefore I won't be receiving any income any more. But I will be able to prove that I earned $1300 in the last 3 month.

With these circumstances will I meet the requirements of the Mexican Consulate?

Thanks in advance for any help.

But you will need some income to live on while living in Mexico.

Migration only checks for the last three months of income. It is possible to have sufficient funds in your bank account to show a monthly income of 1,300 USD, such as having around 15,600 USD to cover a year's stay.

Note that Mexican Consulates often give erroneous information regarding requirements. While the local Migration office where you will be living has the final say.

I think the provable income right now is about $1000 a month for one person.

That FM3 visa is good for only one year. At the end of each year, it must be renewed with another proof of income.
You'll find more useful information here.

Just recently, at least in the Chapala Immigration Office, they have only been requiring proof of income when first obtaining the FM3/2 but not at renewals. It is probably different in other offices.

Thanks for all the help! I still have a few questions...

@joaquinx: I do have more than 15,200 on my bank account, does that mean that it's not necessary to prove also that I earned 1300 (or whatever is required) in the last 3 months?

@Rolly: I'm planning to look for a job in Mexico, if I find one and want to apply for my next FM3, do I also need to show that I earned 1300 per month in the last three months? Or is that not required any more since I have a (steady) job?

If you have a year's worth of income in the bank, that is all you need to present for an FM3. Many people here receive less than the required monthly income but they have enough money in retirement funds or bank accounts to qualify.
