We got one of these in December, and love it. Except for one thing. On our trip from Nuevo Laredo through San Luis Pitosí and Guadalajara to Vallarta in July, we couldnīt find a convenient place to top it up so ended up paying cash for the last part of the trip.. We donīt have a Mexican Credit Card (must get one) and, the last time I checked we couldnīt pay directly from our HSBC account online as we do our Telmex.

Still a great idea and Iīm sure as the system evolves, top-up convenience will improve. The toll booth people kept saying you could top up at OXXO, but none of the ones we tried would do it. One said only bigger ones handled that. We even tried topping up at Rancho Express (a place near Nuevo Laredo that handles things like Texas Toll Tags and American Auto Insurance for those driving north), but no go. We didnīt pass any banks on the road (Bancomer or Inbursa) and when we stopped for the night or left in the morning they werenīt open. Didnīt see one single branch of the other convenience stores on our route.

ĄClaro que sí Esperanza! IAVE.

I hope if anyone finds an easy way to top up online , they will report here. Itīs a really great system. No more fumbling for change. No more straining to see what the heck your toll actually is. They always say "Prepare su cuota", but no figures until the very last minute. I canīt tell you how much change has fallen under the seat fumbling for change. With IAVE you sail through. I love it.

From the website, it appears that you use an American Express card at WalMart.

I got my sticker today at Bancomer in Chapala. Had tried previously at a Bancomer in Ajijic and was told I had to have a credit card associated with the account, which I knew wasn't true. (But what's the point in banging your head against the wall?)

Was a little surprised it cost $172.50 MXN to set up the account/get the sticker, and that that amount was not credited to the balance, as I had previously thought. But no big deal. I put $300 on it (which comes to a $288 credit, minus the $12 peso fee). Look forward to taking it out for a spin, so to speak.
