LCS Shopping Trip to McAllen Texas

Thursday, September 20 we will leave promptly at 6:00 a.m. from the sculpture in LaFloresta and will depart from McAllen at 6:00 a.m. promptly on Sunday, September
23rd.

The price is now 4500 pesos double occupancy round trip including three nights at the Ramada Limited with breakfast included. Single occupancy is an additional 1000 pesos.

A non refundable deposit of 1000 pesos is payable now with the balance due by
September 5th. You must have a valid passport and proper documentation for
the trip (FM3, FM2, etc). Please bring a photocopy of both documents with your
final payment – and of course, don’t forget the originals for the trip.

We’ve been asked if this trip will be repeated – yes, LCS would like to sponsor
additional trips but at this point we need to know your interest by signing up now
for the first trip.

This is a first class bus – AC, heat, reclining seats, bathroom, movie or DVD, etc.
We will make several stops during the trip and are asking that people return to
the same seats after each stop. Bring your own lunch, snack, beverage, etc if you like.
Sweater for the AC – or layered clothing as it’s hard to please everyone with temperature. Please no perfume or cologne while on the bus.

You must set up in advance a driver or taxi to pick you up at the LaFloresta sculpture on our return which is expected to be 8:00 pm on Sunday the 23rd. June and I both will
have cell phones if delays occur.

As the hotel would like to know the number of rooms to reserve, we’d appreciate your
earliest possible response and of course, we also need to meet a minimum reservation
count for the bus as well. It should be a fun shopping, eating, etc trip!

Contact June at the LCS table or email junecooper39@yahoo.com

McAllen is the best place along the Texas/Mexico border to go shopping. In our Mexico City newspaper, we have a weekly travel section. You would be amazed at the airline and bus travel opportunities for upper-middle-class Mexicans who head to McAllen to do exactly that! A friend and I went a couple of years ago and found fantastic bargains at every kind of place from high-end clothing stores, factory outlet stores, to a bargain-basement enormous warehouse store where I wish I could go back to shop frequently.

The motels are great, the shopping is wonderful, and the merchandise is much less expensive than similar merchandise in Mexico--if you could even find similar merchandise in Mexico! Taking the LCS bus trip means you have the ability to bring back more 'stuff' than if you flew round trip.

It would never have occurred to me to go to McAllen to shop BEFORE I moved to Mexico, but it's the A#1 Texas destination from Guadalajara, Morelia, Monterrey, or Mexico City.

Go.

As a former full-timer, I would have jumped at this offer, and still would if it were a quarterly trip with the opportunity to buy round-trip tickets to travel from McAllen down to Ajijic, then return on the next bus 3 months later. I would not need hotel nor meals. In my opinion, this might be the safest way to travel to Ajijic if one has no desire to fly the friendly skies.

Why not take the ETN out of Guadalajara? It leaves every evening at 6 and arrives in Reynosa at 7 in the morning. From there take a bus to McAllen. All for less than a hundred dollars. Return trip are the same hours.
I am usually in McAllen by 8:30 in the morning.
