Anyone from Colima city here? Interested in the city area as opposed to Manzanillo seaside area. How is it to Live in Colima City, re culture, utilities, daily life (ultilities) library, friensly people or not - etc. Appreciate Colim observations. Thnaks.

I took a close look at Colima. Lots of culture and University type activities.. Extremely clean. Friendly people. Reasonable rents and property prices. Safe. *** Hot as hell. Check out the average temps there. That is why there are few Gringos. Just can't take the extreme temps. If that is not a problem for you, it is perfect. You will need to know some Spanish there. Few speak English that I met..: Anyone from Colima city here? Interested in the city area as opposed to Manzanillo seaside area. I assumed that Colima city having a little altitude would be noticably cooler than Manzanillo on the coast, while still having proximity. That's 1 reason Colima City seems convenient, including some culture. Anyone have any real estate links? The Porter's site was very good. Thanks all and appreciate further info.

Even though Colima,Colima is at a higher elevation, it can get hotter than the coast. But, Colima is a beautiful city.

I assumed the same thing. Thought I could enjoy the best of the mountains, culture and the ocean. Like I said, check it out on the web. Get some average temps. You will be shocked. I lived in PV for 1 year and it was cooler there. Go figure. It was a wonderful trip to visit there. It would be OK if you had AC. Not practical though..

From a brief visit, I judge the town pretty and the people friendly. We would like to go back. I have a crime survey that suggests Colima is safer than the average Mexican state, although I have also heard some stories of crime problems and corruption in Colima. THANKS for all the info. I thought Colima City might be cooler than Manzanillo on the coast, even it's approx 65 miles away. I assumed Colima city had a little bit of altitude, while still be reasonably close to beaches - 65 miles is reasonably close. Colima seems to be a good compromise in terms of proximity to the ocean.

Why Colima is so hot...

The reason Colima is so much hotter than the coast is the ridge of mountains between Colima and the coast. They block the sea breezes. It is exactly the same thing we have along the coast of California. San Francisco can be delightful in the summer while 60 miles east, on the other side of the mountain, it is hot as Hades. Colima is one of Mexico's secret treasures. If you deal with summer – and lots of people do -- you’ll have a great place to live.

but I've never been there is summer ... or the beaches in summer. I'm still a winter vacationer except in the highlands.
