Locked Posts and other Opinions

Well, a couple of months ago it was REALLY slow on the Forum.... a common happening that time of each year from my experience. But now things are picking up but maybe not for the better. It seems that there are those that would like to run the Forum and make the rules meet their viewpoint(s). Others are just sure there is some ulterior motive that the owner/moderators have when it comes to locking threads..... some even have statistics to 'prove' their point. Maybe these folks mother was too strict with them during childhood, I dunno.

Then there are those that are quite sure that their point of view is the ONLY viewpoint that could possibly exist. They somehow have a fast track to all the correct information in the universe and aren't shy about sharing it with the rest of us. Of course, they run up against another poster who has the same misguided opinion of themselves and boy, we are off to the races! After a bit the thread is locked and the folks that dislike locked threads get back into the fray.

And since it is coming up on election time slightly NOB, politics are hot and heavy. And just like in the real world outside of the Forum, there is only ONE real truth and everyone else's views are just fabrications.

I think (opinion, remember) that we all should just step back and see if we collectively and individually could just stick to good information given and received. Lay off the testosterone gel for a while see if we could get through a few weeks of civility. Probably won't happen, but....

Yours Truly,

Rose-Colored-Glasses Rick

This is for sure a good reminder Rick. I have been guilty of this myself, especially a couple of years ago. Thanks to Rolly, David and a few others (via a PM or two or three) I have (hopefully) learned my lesson for the most part. I also know that (and this not only pertains to me) I cannot walk on water without getting wet right up to you know where! (smiling) This is certainly a good reminder, Thanks Rick.

Now as I reflect on Rick's opinion about being nice, it is funny but nothing peeves me more than responses that some posters offer that have nothinig at all to do with the OP's original question. I am not speaking about hijacking a thread here, or the ocassional HA HA added in. I think that is probably good for all of us from time to time. I am speaking to folks not reading the original question as it was written and not how the reader (responder) wishes to read it. Just my 2 pesos worth.

Regards,
robt65

Very good observations of this and many Forums.

I think (opinion, remember) we live in a less civil world today largely due to the anonymous nature of the web. Discussions are reduced to personal insults or baseless accusations quickly. It's far easier to attack than read and consider an opposing viewpoint.
