Crafts for children

Hola! I am a Girl Scout leader that is planning an event themed around Mexico. I would love to hear suggestions of crafts and activities to share with the scouts so that they learn about the history and culture of Mexico.

Thanks!

Making yarn crosses ("Eyes of god") is simple and has direct links to the Huichol Indians and their very distinctive artwork and culture. Easy to use recycled materials, and easy to recycle afterwards if desired...
The scout troop my own children were in loved this particular craft activity!
Lots of "how to" pages and videos, including:

Rolly, That is a great article about making pinatas. Especially the way it ends. :)

Thanks for the great ideas folks! I am also interested in doing some type of project with ceramic tiles or with metal working. Any ideas? Keep em coming!

I find You Tube to be very useful. If you go to the web-site & search Manualidades, it will give you some options. Also try aluminum can crafting. They have some really cool videos of repujado (embossing) and box making.
There is just soooo much out there. A Day of the Dead theme is fun too. Learning about Dias de los Muertos gives a deep insight into the Mexican culture.
Have FUN!!!

Go to www.pinterest.com and look through their crafts section. use a few search words. this is a terrific fun site. From all over the world people "pin" on their virtual bulletin boards things they like ---- cars, graphic design, architecture, I have a board just for lanes and another just for staircases....the pins and information exchange for young children is amazing from teaching to parenting....but most of all I just like thinking of something, searching for it and seeing what people have found.
