Hi, I am buying a piece of property in Jalisco, and I am being told that the sales tax is 16%!! Can that be true? Or am I getting shafted, once again? :)

You will have taxes and fees when you make your purchase, same as in the states and this can be more then 16% if one includes the notario, filing and predial if not paid plus sales tax.

Every year you have to pay your "predial" or property tax, mine has never been 16%.

Unless I am mistaken, the 16% IVA tax is only applied to offices or industrial buildings, and then it is applied only to the value of the building and not to the land value. Home or land purchases are exempt from IVA.
