About a week ago I bought a card of four electronic pest repellants at Costco. I had a few of them made in The USA a few years ago, they didn’t work worth a damn. I thought what the hell, maybe they have improved them in the past few years. They are called “Rid Rite” and they are made in China. I bought a card of four of them, for just $202 Pesos. Because of the lack of any kind of an electrical code here, I had to get inventive to mount them conveniently as there are few wall outlets here. I was only able to mount one of them at first. It is in a bad spot, but after about 3 days, there were no fly's in our living room. They used to be all over the floor. I haven’t seen a fly in here in about 3 days now. I used to kill a scorpion about once a week too, no scorpions in the house this week. There are virtually no screen doors in México, and they never seal the entry doors. You can see daylight around our front and back doors. they are convenient for insects to enter. I installed another in the kitchen, and one in my suegras bedroom, and another in my computer office. Today, I went to Costco and bought four more of them. I now have three of them in the sala, and dining room near the front door , and one in the guest bedroom, and my own bedroom. There has not been a big pest problem in most of the upstairs rooms, except for my suegras room, and my office, but what the hell, they are cheap. They emit an inaudible sound that most pests do not like. They don’t bother household pets, unless you have rodents, like Gerbils or hamsters. They don’t bother our dog kids, they lie right next to them and sleep. We had a problem a few years ago with mice in the house. I wish we had Rid Rites then. I am curious to find out if my suegrs room will be pest-free when she gets back from México (City). I had to mount the Rid Right device under the headboard of her bed, I may need to buy another longer 16 gauge extension cord for her room. I had several of them, but they have all disappeared. I guess someone decided that they wanted them more than the man that paid for them. There was a list of which Costco branches sell the Rid Rites in the package. Just about every Costco in Mexico has them, including Guadalajara. Rex

Thanks, Rex. We'd used similar bur different brand repellers, with little or no effect. This is encouraging.

Amazon.com carries them also, and here are the Reviews by purchasers:
http://tinyurl.com/6vgorh5 The opinions differ widely, as is so often the case.

We don't have Costco, but I bought similar devices at City Club a couple of months ago. The brand is "Home & Garden", also made in China, and there are two types, one for crawling insects and mice at around the same price, and the other for flying insects, a bit more expensive.

Normally in summer my house would be invaded by ticks and ants, both very hard to control without extensive fumigation both outdoors and indoors. So far this year, I've only seen a couple disoriented individuals of each. I left for two weeks on a trip to the US and didn't find a single ant or tick on my return. This is nothing short of miraculous!

I'm less impressed with the flying insect model. We don't get many mosquitos, but flies seem to ignore the repellant modules entirely, even from nearby. Maybe I need to change the locations or something.

When I bought the two cards of 4 each Rid Rite electronic insect repellants in the past week or so, a booklet was enclosed saying that they were guaranteed for 3 months. I hadn’t saved the sales receipt for them, I usually throw receipts for groceries away after I unload them, and determine that I have everything I paid for.

The unit I put in my suegra's room while she was in México City was working. I didn’t go into her room to check it. After she came home, she said she could hear a mosquito a few times the first night. I went into her room to check the unit. There is a blue LED that blinks when they are working. The unit had failed, no LED was blinking. I took the unit out of our unoccupied spare bedroom and installed it I

n her bedroom, it worked fine, and she said there are no more insects in her room now.

I took the failed unit back to Costco today to see if the guarantee would be honored. The cashier I spoke to did not speak English, but she handed me over to a woman that spoke good English. She said they would probably need to send it out for repairs, But where did I get them? I showed her the shelf with the cards of 4 units each, she took one of them to a manager to see if one could be given to me.

The young man that was a temporary manager, I think, said to go ahead and give me one of them.

She did, it works at home now, I think our problem is solved. I will leave it plugged in for a few days, then I will probably remove it, as the room is unoccupied right now, even though they use just a tiny bit of electricity, . 2 Watts. There are a lot of reasons why I am happy that we have a Sam’s Club, Costco, and a Wal-Mart here besides lower prices.
