You would be hard pressed to find anyone in Tamaulipas who doesn't support the military's involvement in the drug war, other than those tied in some way to a cartel.

Should read Mexican Public Backs Army In War On Organized Crime

Kidnapping, Extortion, Franchise Robbery Rings, Carjackings, Crooked Cops.

In quieter areas of michoacán, there is somewhat less enthusiasm for the military being there. The key words are "quieter areas". Where the cartels prey on la gente in México, support for the soldados and marinas goes way up.

During the era of gangsterism in the USA during the 20's it was not referred to as "An Alcohol War"

A while back I questioned Rolly on his statement about how wonderfull the 3,000 Army soldiers where doing in Torreon. Well I guess the great Rolly is wrong again. The capture in Coahuila of Alberto Jose Gonzalez Xalate, "El Paisa", considered the Zetas' number three man, has triggered a bloody dispute among criminals over the La Laguna zone, that has resulted in 61 executions during the first eleven days in July, and a total of 425 homicides so far this year, 2012,". So what is your Army doing now? Yep the Mexican Army is kill first talk later, and they are so good as Rolly says thats how many Generals are now in Jail? Rolly is great as to what he says and what he does, my point is Rolly doesn't know everthing about everthing to include the MEXICAN Army. I doubt that Guadalajara has had 425 kills this year, the 2nd largest city in Mexico. Don't kill the messanger

Prorader: And you ARE? And you are located WHERE? And you travel how often in Mexico and where?

My husband and I travel a great deal in Mexico (no, not just tourist areas and no, not just in airplanes) and we really appreciate the info given by Rolly and others. Practical info.

We will be driving in the border area early next week so I came to this Forum to see if there was any GOOD, USEFUL, NEW info.

Have you, Prorader, anything specific to contribute which would help people trying to do something, such as, say, trying to travel?

I´m waiting.

I live in Lake Chapala, my experence is 26 years US Army, and 6 years as a cop/ My take is the same as my experience, a clerk, a cook a truck driver in the US Army the basic is to kill, ask later, The Us Army is much more able to to do this. The Mexican Army and Marines has now and has never had any experience any any conflict other than there own. The Mexican Army has 1 war and that is NARCO, or they have no purpose. Yes Generals as I speak I think 3 have been arrested for drug related deals. Are they doing good, yes but at what cost?

This off the wall response to a three week old thread struck me as odd, so I looked at this guy's old posts. Some of the missing pieces to the puzzle are there if you have the time to waste looking for them.

The Laguna metro area, like the Tamualipas border region where I live, is in Mexico and at the center of a conflict between two ruthless criminal organizations that are fighting for control. The alternative to the military and the relative stability they bring are the cartels and their police auxiliaries. Not a difficult choice for most Mexicans to make.

The purpose of the article Rollie linked was not to deify the Mexican military. It was simply to point out that the majority of the Mexican public supports the use of the military against the cartels.

Sorry not a travel agent and I don't write books. I live in Mexico travel a lot, both coasts, Lake Chapala, Guadalajara, Tijuana and other places
As to Rolly, a past article was how wonderfull the Army was doing in his area. Well they are not doing so good now, why is that?

That makes your insight and observations even less impressive. My wife has two cousins who live in Gomez Palacio so I know a little bit about what is going on there aside from what Rollie writes. There is a night/day difference in the security situation since the military was brought in a couple of years ago. But that should be obvious to any reasonably informed person. Other than revealing the fact you are resentful of the respect most readers have for Rollie, I don't get much else out of your posts.
