Periodontist Wanted (A Real One)

My husband and I are becoming increasingly concerned as we have twice returned to the US for a visit to our former dentist for a review of our work done in Mexico and received bad news. Our original dentist in PV missed an issue completely that cost my husband his tooth and a $1000 last summer while traveling NOB. This year after seeing 2 dentist in PV, (one a professed Periodontist) both gave him a clean bill of health, he had it double checked NOB and has been informed that he has serious issues with him gums, measuring 10 that requires $2500 of surgery under general anethesia, that's after the $700 scaling. This tips our budget off the scale. We both wonder if the requirements for dental school are equal in Mexico? We are hoping to find a "Real" and good periodontist and are pretty much willing to travel anywhere to find one given these US prices, we can afford to.

How do you know the dentist NOB are giving you correct information and not trying to make money. Is it because they are NOB and therefore must be more honest and ethical?

We have 2 different dentist that we have met with here and will likely meet with a 3rd. We know from last year that within 2-3 onths of his checkup in PV he had a toothache and had to have an extraction. That is the most solid evidence.

You know, you might want to ask this over on Chapala.com. I have a feeling that a top specialist would be based out of Guadalajara. Chapala has a more senior clientele, more 'medically experienced'.

My wife and I were discussing your husband's gums Laugh

. She said it sounds like what she had, deep pockets, not in the money sense, but deep in your gumline. After 4 painful procedures at a top Vancouver Periodondist, all heavily insured, he told her that there was nothing more he could do, just keep up normal dental hygiene and hope for the best. Anyways, I thought I would pass it on.

The cheapest and fastest solution is have them all pulled and get false teeth. That will solve any periodontal problems.

I met a guy who had some teeth extracted and had a custom bridge made. He didn't wear it at work though - I don't know why. Movie people are so strange.

I have had no trouble with dentists in Puerto Vallarta. As a matter of fact a Periodontist in Vallarta gve me a quote in excess of what my Ontario Periodontist said was necessary ($4000 US in Vallarta. My Ontario Periodontist said he would just monitor me and I should have regular, i.e., quarterly cleanings

My current Dentist in Vallarta is Dr. Adan Michel at the Advance Medical Centre in Versalles in Vallarta. He might be able to advise you even though he isn´t a specialist in this area.

And yes, they actually go to real Dental Colleges in Vallarta. Dr. Michel is a third generation Dentist. He can read and write too.

First of all Michel is not a periodonist and the one he brings in is the one that missed this work that needs to be done. We loved Michel for years until hubby's tooth had to be yanked while in the US and Dr. Michel had nothing to offer as to how and why they missed it. I have yet to be offered xrays by a Mexican dentist which is the only way to find cavities between teeth and under fillings
