Moving and Need to Sell 1.8 meter Dish

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hello! We're headed back to the US, and I need to sell my 1.8 meter dish. We're in Mexico City, and from our roof, anyway, the dish can pull in many transponders off the 119 bird or can get at least some HD stations some of the time off the 121 bird. I also have two 1.4 meter dishes. I don't know the rules or etiquette on this sort of thing on the forum, so I don't want to make this a real ad. But if anyone had any suggestions for a place I could try to sell the dishes, I'd appreciate it.

All best --

Roger

Normally we do not allow adds in this part of the forum, but because this is a techie thing, so why not. :)

You mentioned you're heading back to the states. I recently checked the cost of maid service here in Seattle. I was shocked. The average cost per hour in my Condo is $33.00 US per hour including all benefits. Gosh; it doesn't cost much more than that per hour in pesos in Mexico.

No wonder I am heading back in a couple of weeks.

good luck

It's a trifle off-topic, but I'd have to say that, at least where we are, Polanco, in Mexico City, on average the cost of living is pretty much on par with how we lived in the US. (And, especially considering how this is supposed to be the Beverly Hills of Mexico City, the quality of most items is distinctly lower.) Yes, the great exception to that is that any sort of labor is vastly cheaper. We have a very hard-working woman who comes in and cleans once a week, and yes, we don't have to pay her what we would back home.

On the other hand, having someone rummaging around the house cleaning while I'm trying to do something drives me nuts. I'm looking forward to heading back to where we CAN'T afford it. I'll have to do more cleaning -- but I'll have some peace and quiet. In any event, if anyone is interested in the dishes, they can shoot me a private message.

All best to all those north and south of the border --

Roger

It is wrong that I continue to talk about the cost of maids in Seattle, under the topic of Technical Mexico. But please forgive me fellow moderators just this once. Earlier today at the local espresso hang out, we were talking about the $33 per hour US mentioned to me. by a maid working for a local service.

A gentleman overheard us and told us that he ran a cleaning service, and said that those rates quoted above were normal. In the conversation he stated that although he charges that much, he only paid his staff $12 to $15 US per hour including time for driving between jobs. Most of them worked at two to three houses or condo units per day. He also pointed out many of his expenses to include vacation time, health insurance, Etc and of course profits to pay for his salary Etc.

That's why I clean my own condo here in Seattle. But in Ajijic, Mexico, as I posted above, labor is much more economical. Now if only we had fast internet service and good 4G cell phone data packages (you know surfing the net) service in Mexico as cheap as up North.

Good luck with your move up North. Me, I can hardly wait to get back to Mexico and get ready with an old 2.4 meter satellite
dish with a 3 head LNB to connect to DirecTV USA (three satellites from one satellite dish)

Do any of you know just how far south Direct TV is available with a larger dish. I'm looking for first hand knowledge. I'm on the coast in Oaxaca. Most folks have Shaw Direct but I know some of us would prefer Direct if we could get it.

No first hand experience here. Only that is somewhat farther south than the Guadalajara area, and I would worry that the signal might be very or too weak.

Good luck and if you learn somewhere else and not here, please let us know, hopefully the good news
