To Rolly's original post: They destroyed all official copies, but, I doubt seriously all copies can be destroyed. A few months after this failed program was deployed, I was offered a pirated copy!!! I know of thousands of copies, it was also found online. The CURP discussion: Be careful with the computer generated CURP's. The algorithm has a flaw for those of us that only use one official last name. If you do not use a maternal last name it trips up the auto generated CURP's. The CURP is an alpha numeric code using first initial, DOB, BOTH paternal and maternal last names and the State where you were born. For foreigners, it's the NELX near the end of the sequence (I believe it's an acronym for nacido en el extranjero). If you participate in the Mexico formal economy you need a valid CURP (employment, income taxes, investments, credit etc etc) . In Mexico, an individual has several ID's: RFC, CURP, IMSS#, IFE or INM #, passport, Driver's License...
