car computers

A computer has gone out in my car. A replacement is not available anywhere in Mexico. I've tried car dealerships in the US and they all refuse to ship one to Mexico. Does anyone know what's going on? If it's legal to drive a US car into Mexico with a functioning computer in it, can it be illegal to ship a replacement computer to Mexico?

Many companies won't ship to MX for a number of different reasons, theft, Customs etc. And now, some companies read your IP when you order online and won't ship, or give you a hard time. Earlier this year I ordered a new weather station, my CC address is Laredo with an American bank, I was shipping it to Austin but my IP was MX, took a bunch of work to get it to happen. At one point they wanted me to scan either my CC or license (don't remember which) I told them that wasn't going to happen.

Just find a middle man who can receive it in the States and then bring it on down. Don't attempt to apply logic to the problem, you're in Mexico, you checked logic at the border.

Cannot the computer be repaired? The mentality in the US is to trash it and replace with new. The Mexican mentality is to fix what is broken. Cost of labor is the determining factor.

Granted this was seven years ago and involved a less complex computer but Spencer at S & S was able to find a rebuilt or refurbished computer for our car and it is still running today here in NM.

Assuming it is a common auto you could get a used one from any number of auto wreckers in Guadalajara.
