Gate openers and Closers

Can't Post | Private Reply
Most of us either have Gate openers and Closers or know what they are since most residences in GDL do not have garage doors. Does anyone know of or has anyone seen an automated closer that will close ones gate if for anyreason it was left open ? I have seen these products for garage doors back in the states but nothing for gates and their openers.

Not directly helpful to you, but I have seen them advertised in Mexico City, so they ought to exist in GDL. You could start with a variation on this search.

Boy, that would be great. I can see problems though if there were not a way to easily disable this option for parties, construction projects, etc

I have seen a product that may work for gates with openers using long tracks parallel to the gate similar to the ones for overhead garage doors called "Garage Butler" which will not work in my situation.

Our coto has a gate that swings open to the street using a electric ram attached to each side of the gate. The problem is that any of the 10 residents of the coto can forget to close the gate, after that anyone from the street can enter.

I built a gated entry in the past. The default position was "closed". I put an opening detector wand which was buried in the driveway inside of the gate, several meters from the gate and connected to the control box. If a vehicle passed over the wand, it would open the gate for exit.

On the outside was a keypad with a 4 digit code for each resident to open the gate without getting out of their vehicle. If either the keypad or the opening detector opened the gate, it was on a default timer that automatically closed the gate after 30 seconds. (our opener had variable time settings for closure also).

There was also an obstacle detector so if some not so bright person decided to stop in the gateway, the gate would tap their vehicle and reopen (mainly to avoid damaging my gate, not their vehicle :-) ) There was also a release lever inside the opener so the gate could be opened manually in case of power failures.

Check the manual for your gate operator. There may be settings that will allow you to reset it and make the default as "Closed".

I have used this brand (Mighty Mule) in the past for swing gates. The product is easy to install and is DIY. Their website says they are sold in Costco, Sears and Home Depot. Not sure if the MX stores also carry them, but maybe they can order them for you. Otherwise, they are also sold on Amazon - here is the search result which shows the accessories too:

They also have an optional automatic closer accessory (FM143).

Here's the company's website:

FM143, FM143-Automatic Gate Lock for Auto Gate Openers, will not do what I need.

The company used to sell a timer some time ago for their opener, but stopped selling it several years ago.

A new dual swing gate opener in the states is less than $600 dollars, but they will only keep the gates open for 2 minutes unless you open the control units cover and disable it.

Great information no mater what !

Here is the manual for the dual swing gate operator FM352 (two gates that swing open). See the bottom of page 27 in this manual for "Setting Auto Close Time", which is adjustable between 0 and 120 seconds. This timer is built into the controls for the operator.

The FM143 accessory will then lock the gate after it closes (in other words, the gate is not just closed, it is also locked).

Hope this is helpful.

Found the manuals for a GENIUS swing gate, which is manufactured by FAAC in Italy.
After calling Italy today, a US number for the company was supplied.

Seems like we have a special control board just for mexico with dip switches so it is easier for the installer to configure then using a pair of LED displays and three toggle buttons.

The configuration here has no safety features so that it stops for nothing in its way.
This means that if something is in front of the gate when it opens it is dented plus where the ram is connected to the gate or post will snap.

It also has a two minute automatic closing feature, I would like something more l plus the ability to have the gate stay open.
For this feature I may have to build a small circuit to wire into the current main board.

All the information is really appreciated, many brands of openers are installed in Mexico.
Not all of us had the chance to be involved with the systems configuration especially if it is for a Coto or condo complex.
Our installer wants to keep us in the dark so we have to go to them for everything !
