I'm a big fan of Cristiane Amanpour and it was good to see her in another interview. The Ambassador was well spoken (his English is perfect) and he made some excellent points. Of course, he was also making the subtle point that the solution lies in staying with PAN in the federal government. Aside from the political angle, I think he is a bit optimistic that these changes (with or without PAN) can be accomplished in 10 or so years. Shifting the culture to a rule of law as he described is a fundamental shift in Mexican culture. Can it happen? Perhaps. Did she have to bring Rick Perry into it? I don't know why the US has this blind view that the problems all lie below the border. Why don't they ever seem to notice that all of these drugs and weapons are moving on both sides of the border, if Rick Perry wants to help out he should put his National Guard on the northern side of the border and stop the drugs there, or stop the guns going south. Instead he talks about invading Mexico to "help out", the man is an idiot.
