Garry:

In recent history, we have had a few "forum trolls" with one in particular returning for repeated rounds of attention. To be quite honest, your activities were starting to look like one of these trolls in my book.

Hi all,

I seemed to have infringed on an unwritten law here. I wish to assure that I did this unwittingly and have decided that I wont post anymore. I do not want to leave angry or have some here angry at me because I would like a place to go should I have a question about say, where is the best place to buy bananas in Progreso.

So for those I briefly met, Have a wonderful day. For the others who have found my posts obnoxious and unseemly, I extend my profound apologies.

I like the 'sit back and learn' ... but that takes awhile.

According to your Blog you have a lot to say ... but maybe better said there. A Blog suggestion :::: Adjust your width so it's readable. Right now it's not

Garry, I'm glad to see that you are still on the forum and monitoring it. It would be wrong (in my opinion) to drop the forum because of the comments that were made. None were that denigrating, it was just that you (as with many other newcomers to MexConnect OR México) made so very many (and very wordy) posts, as if the things you are just discovering about México, retirement or whatever, that seemed to take it for granted that you were the first to discover these things, so it was your responsibility to TELL everyone else. And, although I and others can be guilty of the same thing, tell it in such a long and wordy way.

There is no question that the things you discover MAY be of interest to others reading the forum (particularly the "lurkers"), but right now, at the beginning, keep your comments short and sweet and see how they are received by those of us who have been on the forum for some time. Ignore the soreheads, as this, in common with all the public forums I follow and post on, has its share of those. Just ignore them, and for goodness sake DON'T ANSWER them, or you will be drawn into their trap. THEY are the trolls, NOT YOU!

When you learn something new, first post it as a question on the forum. You'll be amazed at the many and thoughtful answers you get.

Good luck and welcome to MexConnect.

Fitting in on message boards has been more difficult than fitting into to Mexico for me. I joined this board in the late '90s when there basically were no others and was not able to move here until 2005.

I had a grand time posting all my newly found info and asking my newbie questions. It seems most Mexico Message Boards and users have matured over the last 13-14 years ... meaning we have seen most all of it before.

Stick around if only to check it out ... but don't limit yourself to what fruit you ate for breakfast. Mango season is soon here !!!

One of the things I figured out when I was first on Mexconnect is this: I learned to lurk and watch for a while before I started posting. That way I got to see who the knowledgeable people were and who the trolls were. Some of the knowledgeable people are no longer here, but others have taken their places. Ditto the trolls: some have gone the way of all things, but others have taken their place.

It seems to me--and it's just my opinion--that Mexconnect is in a slow period right now. There aren't many posts lately. But there are a zillion old posts, many of which have just as much relevance now as they did last year or even before that. It helped me a lot, way back then, to read a lot here before adding my two cents worth.

I think--and again, it's just my opinion--that sometimes when a new member posts long and frequent posts right at the beginning, it pretty much overwhelms us all. I know that I get a little frustrated because it's hard to sort it all out.

Have fun here. Glad to have you on board.

An analogy.....

Two different kids moves to a new town and enter the same new school. Kid1 kind of lays back, gets a 'feel for the turf', smiles a lot and answers questions put to him/her. After a bit, he/she begins to contribute to conversations, usually supporting what someone else has offered. Sooner or later Kid1 feels like he/she 'belongs' and everyone else forgets he/she is actually new to the school.

Kid2 comes into the same school swinging.... right off the bat he/she is telling stories that makes him/her appear to be a know-it-all when in reality everyone else is pretty much aware of the things that are being said by K2. Everywhere you look there is Kid2 pontificating in a loud and boisterous manner.... just like maybe he/she was typing in BOLD print. After a while someone tells K2 to cool it. Of course his/her feelings are hurt and he/she just can't understand what he/she did wrong.... just trying to be friendly.

Maybe we here are just kids in a way. Any maybe, just maybe, you came in 'swinging'.....

Go figure. The forum is run by the elite 6 or 8 persons, peroid. Until the owners step in and change personal this forum will be full of lurkers but few posters.
Chasing away Señor Ladouce is a prime example of how the self imposed powers are out of control. What did he ever do to you besides write better posts?

This type of behavior is not uncommon in many topic specific forums and they usually die in the hands of the few King and Queen BEES.

That is absolutely true, Esperanza, and matches the pattern we've seen on MexConnect for May every year since the forums started in 1996!

Note to some of the other posters on this thread:

The hot May weather seems to spur the "mean-spirited" into expressing their opinions on these forums. Everyone is welcome on these forums provided their posts stay within the site's guidelines:

Garry is a welcome new member of the forums. As a newbie, cut him some slack!
