I am pretty sure that there are no buses from the Cancun airport to Merida. What one does is take a bus/shuttle to the downtown Cancun bus station and then get a 'regular' bus from there to Merida. They run several times a day. Been there done that..... A couple of years ago the fare was about 300 pesos per person for the premier non-stop service which took about 3-4 hours for the drive over.

There are roughly 3 buses daily direct from Cancun airport (terminal 3) to Merida. They run in the afternoons / evening, starting after 1:00 PM.

Check out the ADO website for exact information, since each day's schedule is slightly different.
It is easy to get tickets, since there is an ADO booth on your left about 20 m past your exit from INM/Aduana in terminal 3.

ADO Website: http://www.ado.com.mx/wadod/compra.jsp (Compra Boletos page)
De Dónde Sales: (select) Cancun Aerpuerto Q.R.
A Dónde Vas: (select) Merida, Alta Brisa, Yuc. or Merida Fiesta Americana, Yuc.

They sometimes run full size buses (at busy times like Semana Santa), but they usually use a comfortable 25 passenger van on the direct run.

It's a much much quicker trip than going from the downtown Cancun station, because they take the city bypass, missing all the traffic and topes. The bus makes a 15 minute stop at the midway toll plaza for people to stretch their legs and buy snacks or meals at the 4-5 restaurants/tiendas outside of Valladolid.

If you are the last passenger on the bus as it leaves Alta Brisa to go to Hotel Fiesta Americana, you could consider asking the driver to drop you directly at your home (as long as it is not far off their way). We've given a $50 peso tip for this servicio a domicilio, and gotten nice smiles in return.

When you return from Merida to Cancun, there are morning departures for the direct-to-airport bus.

Hi Garry,
Sorry for my editing of the post, while you were asking more questions.

I have ridden the direct bus 4 times - every time the 25 passenger bus - fairly new, comfortable, good A/C - but no snacks. Our daughter has ridden the bigger direct bus - but I never saw them handing out any free beverages - (unlike the ADO Platino service from downtown Cancun). No movies on the 25 person bus. I don't know about the big bus.

Sandwiches, tortas, salbutes, panuchos, cochinita pibil, etc and a full selection of beverages can be bought at the plaza on the stop midway through the viaje.

The hat? It's a festive gag that one our local restaurants put onto birthday celebrants. If you want the song and the free birthday dessert, (or not), ya gotta wear the hat. Good steaks, good moles, good pozole, so, it's worth wearing the hat.

Sorry you had a tough time with the Yolisto administrator. There are new owners of the site, and the new administrator (a very active long-term poster) is exploring her new powers.
Safe travels for your wife.

Merida, Col. Garcia Gineres

Steaks: La Parilla (the restaurant, not the taco/sandwich branches) on Prolongación de Montejo - about 1 block north of San Francisco de Assis/Office Depot - on the west side. They pre-cut their steaks to local style thickness (1/2"), but the meat is tasty and you can eat a nice combination of arracheras, rib-eye, etc as a part of the almuerzo buffet - cooked over carbón vegetal - and yes, they do prepare a good rare steak (upon your request). Local color - nice folks - good local food.

The very best steaks and cordero in Merida are found at La Recova - about 5 blocks further north on the east side - but this is an Argentine style place, more expensive, and more popular with the trendy crowd.

ˇ Sabroso !

No, Merida is not a choice, Merida Aeropuerto is a choice for the airport to airport shuttle, but most travelers would want to get of at Merida Fiesta Americana (in Centro, but north of the center of Centro) or Mérida Altabrisa. The shuttle service does not stop at Merida, Yuc CAME, the first class bus terminal.

No, there is a full size bus that regularly runs, no more than once a day in each direction. More service frequencies are with the Sprinter, the passenger van.

Good clarifications. I accidentally typed a comma after the first "Merida", (fumbly fingers) where the ADO website lists:
"Merida Alta Brisa"

The Cancun airport bus service direct to Merida locations does not go to either CAME or TAME - but we have found that the airport to airport online listed service is spotty in reality.

Have you actually taken the bus either to or from the Merida airport? We have personally had bad luck with the bus actually making the Merida airport loop - causing rush trips across Merida to sprint from the airport to the Fiesta Americana hotel to catch the departing bus. ADO personnel have just shrugged and given us blank looks when we asked why the bus never went to the Merida airport, so, we use the ADO office across from Fiesta Americana for Merida departures - and we get them to drop us off at our house on arrivals to Merida.

Since TIM (This Is Mexico), it seemed worthwhile to identify how things actually work vs. the official policies listed on-line.
