While it's true that most foreigners moving to Oaxaca are retirees, or early retirees, there are more and more young folks moving here each year. I suggest you visit the Oaxaca Lending Library to get answers to some of your questions. (You'll have even more questions once you get here, I guarantee). The library is located at Avenida Pino Suarez #519 and is open from 10 until 2 and 4 until 7, Monday through Friday. From 10 until noon on Saturdays there's an intercamibio session (free) where Mexicans and English speakers help each other practice Spanish and English (free).
