Exposicion Y Vente de Artesanias / Artists Expo in Uruapan, begins Saturday, March 31 and continues through Sunday, April 15. The Festival begins at 9am, closes at 10pm and is in the Main Plaza, in El Centro Uruapan. Over a thousand artists from around Michoacan display their work.
Opening the Festival is the Parade of Villages, where the communities of Michoacan show their crafts, native dress and cultures.
Also on Saturday, from 10am to 6pm is Muestra de Comida Tradicional Purepecha, a food court of traditional cooking. This may be a one day event.
The Concurso de Uruapan (the official judging of the best of the best crafts) will be Sunday, April 1, at the Fabrica San Pedro, the old, 19th century textile factory. Time of viewing and sale depends upon final judging , but it is usually in the afternoon!
Uruapan is an easy drive or bus ride. Leaving Morelia, just before Patzcuaro, take the Uruapan Cuota, 60k to the city center.
Of course, you will have to stay for a walk through the lucious water garden, the National Park, in the heart of Uruapan.
