Wanted a Cockatiel

Can't Post | Private Reply
I have reawakened my love for birds as pets and now I can't sleep or do anything except research and look for a cockatiel to bring home. I made a trip to the border last Nov. to shop for what I would need and came home luckily before my appendix burst. Two surgeries and four months later, I'm now ready to care for and love a new friend. I'm hoping to find a private breeder that raises cockatiels and may be looking for the right buyer before I resort to the pet shop in Veracruz. I am also looking for a large cage, but I'll be making the play gyms myself.

I have a small RV so travel is not a problem and I would prefer that to shipping. If you have what I'm looking for, please contact me by email at sunnyvogler@yahoo.com. Thank you.

I recommend you read the USDA regulations on importing foreign birds into the United States before you even consider this:

http://www.aphis.usda.gov/...nonus_pet_bird.shtml

From a very quick scan, it appears that besides a lot of paperwork, the bird MUST be flown (not under his or her own power) into Miami, JFK or Los Angeles airport for a thirty-day quarantine (at your expense). A U.S. resident can only bring in a bird from Mexico if they have been resided full-time in Mexico for at least a year.

Thank you for the concern. I can't imagine returning to the States for any reason. I certainly couldn't afford to live there on my SS. I am happy and settled here going on five years. No one knows what tomorrow may bring, but the future for me is in Mexico.

Oh... ok. The mention of an RV threw me... and I had to squawk about it. Maybe I should have sent you a tweet, instead.

Also be careful when traveling between states here in Mexico. Birds are often confiscated when entering the state of Campeche and perhaps other states as well. It's a tough pet to travel with.
