Anyone made the trip from Nogales to Ajijic recently or planning it in the near future? We would love to hear from you. We will be heading South in Early April.

Re: [bound4ajijic] Nogales Crossing

I just crossed into the USA at Nogales/Mariposa and then back again into Mexico the next day a little more than a week ago. Almost two weeks now.

I have been doing this for five years now, several times per year. I have never had a minute's trouble entering Mexico. The hangup for me is always entering the USA. There can be delays going north at the military check point near Benjamin Hill and again at the border. Sometimes not.

But...next week is Semana Santa...Easter Week, Easter falling on April 8th. I know from experience that a lot of people from the USA come back to Mexico during the week just before and the week just after Easter, which can cause the crossing going south to become a little more congested than usual, especially at Km 21 where you will need to stop and get your vehicle permit and visa, unless you already have these.

You have probably picked the worst or second worst week of the year to travel between the USA and Mexico, in either direction, but I predict your only significant delays will occur when you return. The military check point near Benjamin Hill can become a nasty bottleneck (going north only) and then the US border crossing.

If you plan to take Mexican Hwy 15 south into Sinaloa, you will have to traverse Hermosillo, Sonora, where I live. There is a large flyover construction site on the south side of HMO on Hwy 15. I do not venture down that way so I have no idea of the status of the work. But I see huge sections of bridge being towed in that direction from the windows of the gym where I exercize each morning. So I guess it is still probably quite a mess down there. I understand from others that there is a detour around it, if you use the bypass road on the east side of the city to get there. I live on the west side and I never go south of where I am located, so I cannot tell you more. I just know people are still passing through that area going north and south every day. So it must be doable.

Good Luck and have a safe trip.
